(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday, April 4, that he has accepted Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre’s resignation.
“I accepted the resignation of Vit Aguirre, my fraternity brother,” he said in a speech before rice traders in Malacanang.
Aguirre’s resignation came after Duterte expressed displeasure over the Department of Justice’s dismissal of drug charges against Kerwin Espinosa, Peter Lim and others.
Prior to Aguirre’s resignation, speculation had been rife Aguirre would be sacked, but Palace officials refused to confirm or deny this.
