(Eagle News) – Filipinos in Indonesia were advised by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to be vigilant following recent bombings that have rocked the country’s second largest city.

In a statement on Tuesday, May 15, the DFA said it has instructed the more than 250 Filipinos in  Surabaya, through the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, to be cautious and to “limit their movement.”

The DFA said more than 8,000 Filipinos are working across Indonesia.

The coordinated suicide bombings in three churches and then later a police headquarters that left over ten dead and at least 40 injured were linked to Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), a local extremist network.

JAD has allegedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

According to the DFA, there were no reports of Filipino casualties in the recent attacks, which were allegedly carried out separately by two families.

The DFA said it continues to monitor and coordinate with the Filipino community in Surabaya to ensure their safety.
