(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, May 15 visited the wake of the late Senator Edgardo Angara.
President Duterte arrived at the Heritage Park around 12:30 a.m. with Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
The President described the late senator as a “very humble” and “very quiet” person, and possessed the qualities of a true diplomat.
“The late Senator Angara was a very humble and very quiet person. Pang-diplomat talaga, which I can never be one, ever,” the President said after visiting Angara’s wake.
He also said that the late statesman became his defender before the European Union as they couldn’t understand each other.
“Siya ‘yung tagapagtanggol sa bunganga ko. Hindi kami nagkakaintindihan ng mga puti eh,” he said.
The late senator served the government in various capacities from 1987 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2013 before he was appointed by the chief executive as special envoy to the European Union (EU) in May 2017.
