(Eagle News) — Almost all of the 115 reelectionists who were on the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s narco-list won in the recently concluded barangay elections.
The figure given by Interior Undersecretary Martin Diño in a radio interview over dzbb on Saturday, May 19, was higher than the 60 officials on the narco-list who won in the same elections, according to PDEA.
He said these officials would be closely monitored by the Department of the Interior and Local Government and PDEA.
He said should these officials fail to report illegal drug activities in their areas of jurisdiction, they would be charged and dismissed.
According to Diño , it was possible drug money was indeed used by some to win the elections.
He said there were also reports of vote-buying in the recent polls.
The Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections had been suspended twice before they pushed through on May 14.
In supporting the postponement, President Duterte had expressed fears those involved in illegal drug activities would use drug money to assume key government posts.
