LP bares senatorial bets for 2019 midterm elections; Sereno among those being considered

(Eagle News) — Liberal Party President Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan officially announced on Monday, May 21 the possible senatorial bets for the 2019 midterm elections.

Pangilinan bared the six names of the possible candidates which they will call collectively as the “Resistance Coalition”.

The “Resistance Coalition” is composed of Sen. Bam Aquino, former Quezon Representative and LP Vice President for External Affairs Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada, Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, former Akbayan party-list Rep. Barry Gutierrez and De La Salle University College of Law Dean Jose Manuel Diokno.

Pangilinan also said they are considering having former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno in the coalition.

Sereno, however, in another separate TV interview, said that politics was still far from her mind right now as she was bent on appealing the Supreme Court decision that ousted her from the Chief Justice post.

Aside from Sereno, Pangilinan added that they are also urging actress Agot Isidro to run for senator in the 2019 midterm polls.

“Of course, she was hesitant. But then we said, precisely, that we need more women to step up and so she said, ‘Okay, you can consider it but let me think about it also. We’re still convincing her,” Pangilinan said in a TV interview.
