BOC turns over to PDEA seized shabu, ecstasy shipments worth P11.87 million

(Eagle News) The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday, May 22, turned over two shipments of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and party drug “ecstasy” to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The two drug shipments allegedly came from California, United States. They were seized last month at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

One of the drug shipments was discovered on April 23 inside a pillow. The pillow contained 344.50 grams of drugs addressed to a certain Susano Trinidad of Cubao, Quezon City.

While the other drug shipment was found in a medicine cabinet which contained 2.031 kilograms of drugs consigned to a certain Joey Cuenca of Imus, Cavite. It was intercepted on April 27.

The drugs were discovered after the shipments underwent X-ray examinations, canine sweeping and field tests.

The illegal drugs that were confiscated were presented to the media by BOC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña. He said the shipments had an estimated street value of P11.87 million.

Lapeña said his agency is intensifying the anti-drug operations to apprehend more drug shipments.

“We have intensified our anti-drug operations at the ports, and so we are able to apprehend drug shipments in March and April in NAIA alone,” Lapeña said. (With a report from Jerold Tagbo)
