Duterte declares entire Boracay island under land reform

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, May 30, said he was declaring the entire Boracay island under land reform.

The President said, however, that if some wanted to “retain” the island’s “commercial quality,” Congress could create a 30-meter easement from the shoreline for the establishments.

“Mag-usap nalang kami sa Congress…The entire island will be declared as a land reform area. Sagarin na natin. Give it to the people,” he said.

President Duterte has approved a six-month closure to rehabilitate the island, which he has described as a “cesspool.”
