(Eagle News) — Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano will run for senator in 2019.
This was after Alejano accepted the nomination of his party to run for the post.
“ I have the duty to prepare and equip myself for the tasks ahead,” Alejano said in a statement on Tuesday, June 5.
Alejano thanked his colleagues in the Magdalo party, “especially” Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for their nomination.
“I submit to the direction and wisdom of the group as we always decide collectively on important issues affecting our country including the decision to field me for the senate in the next year’s elections,” he said.
According to Alejano, as it is, “independent-minded senators are needed as “most seems to be silent and indifferent to the abuses of the Duterte administration and its apparent subservience to China.”
The country “needs more independent minded members of the Senate to speak for the people, stand up for our democracy, and defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added.
