Albayalde sacks QCPD station 4 commander, on-duty jail guard after detainee’s death

(Eagle News) — The commander of the Novaliches Police Station and one of its jail guards who was on duty when detainee Genesis Argoncillo died have been sacked.

Supt. Carlito Grijaldo, station 4 commander,  and P03 Dennis Saño have been relieved from their posts pending an inquiry into the death of Argoncillo.

The dismissal took place after the Quezon City Police District publicly denied Argoncillo, who had been arrested for “alarm and scandal” on June 15, had been mauled to death while detained, as claimed by his kin.

The QCPD said Argoncillo died in the hospital where he was rushed four days after his arrest after he complained of shortness of breath.

“These are mere conjectures until an autopsy is performed. Besides, our policemen are under strict orders to follow the PNP protocols calling for rights-based treatment of suspects and detainees,” the QCPD said.
