Saying he is the commander-in-chief, President Duterte claims responsibility for Samar misencounter

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, June 29, claimed full responsibility for the misencounter in Samar that left several policemen dead.

“I’d like to tell you that the ultimate blame, fault is on me being the commander-in-chief,” Duterte said in a speech before soldiers and policemen in Tacloban.

“And so you just say that it’s all my fault,” he added.

The President made the pronouncement after he visited Camp Ruperto Kangleon in Palo, Leyte, where he condoled with the families of Edwin Ebrado, Phil Rey Mendigo, Rowell Reyes,  Julius Suarez,Julie Escalo and Wyndell Noromor, who were slain in the incident on Monday, and conferred on them the Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank of Kalasag.

He also visited the injured in the hospital.

According to Duterte, “let us forget the hurts,” noting that what happened was unintentional.

Even then, he said an investigation was already under way.

“(Let us) allow the investigation to go on, and let us see what develops in the future,” he said.
