Manifesto calling for Alvarez’s replacement by Arroyo as Speaker being circulated in House

(Eagle News) — A manifesto is being circulated in the House of Representatives to oust Pantaleon Alvarez as speaker.

A supposed coalition of congressmen who signed the manifesto said Alvarez’s replacement by Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was “in the interest of providing a more dynamic legislature attuned with the times and the needs of the people.”

The group said a “credible and competent House leadership will be needed to guide and steer the national debate towards a resolution of these pending issues that will strengthen the Republic in the years to come.”

“We believe that as the Duterte administration has reached the mid-point of its term, now more than at any point is there a need to support the administration with a pro-active legislative agenda that will safeguard the country’s economic growth and secure the safety of our people,” the group said.

Rumors had it Davao Mayor Sara Duterte was behind the planned change of leadership in the House.

The presidential daughter had been engaged in a word war with Alvarez over he establishment of a regional party.

Alvarez called her a member of the opposition, but she said the move had the  President’s blessing.

On Monday, July 23, the House adjourned its session without the ouster plot pushing through, but reports are saying there were calls for the adjournment of the same once again.
