(Eagle News)–Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will form a new committee in the House of Representatives that will discuss issues on disaster preparedness in the country.
Arroyo made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, July 31.
This was in response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for Congress to create a Department of Disaster Management in his State of the Nation Address on July 23.
Arroyo said those who would form the committee were the lawmakers who were present in the meeting on Monday, July 30, with members of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
These include Reps. Jose Enrique Garcia III, Geraldine Roman, Cheryl Deloso-Montalla, Estrellita Suansing, Leopoldo Bataoil and Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado.
