Though outside PAR, two tropical storms enhance southwest monsoon; yellow rainfall alert hoisted over M. Manila, four provinces

(Eagle News)–The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration is monitoring another weather system outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

In its 4 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said that as of 3 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm “Leepi” was situated 1965 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

“Leepi” is packing maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 95 kph, moving at a northwest direction at 20 kph.

This was apart from Tropical Storm “Yagi,” or “Karding,” which, as of 3 a.m., was situated 196 km east of extreme northern Luzon, and has made landfall in the eastern part of China, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kph near the center, and gustiness of 120 kph.

It is moving northwest at 35 kph.

Although outside PAR, the two weather systems are enhancing the southwest monsoon, causing continuous rains in Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mindoro.

A yellow rainfall warning has been hoisted over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and Zambales.

PAGASA said the rest of Luzon will experience occasional rains.

In the Visayas, the weather bureau said there would be “generally fair weather” with some rains due to localized thunderstorms especially in the afternoon and at night.

A gale warning has been hoisted over all waters of Luzon except in Pampanga and Bulacan.
