One dead, 36 injured after IED explodes during town festival in Sultan Kudarat

(Eagle News)–One person was killed and 36 others were injured after an improvised explosive device went off during a town festival in Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday night.

The explosion took place at 8:34 p.m. near a gas station in Barangay Kalawag 3, as  activities were ongoing in commemoration of the town’s 61st founding anniversary.

Authorities said the IED had been placed inside a motorcycle that had been parked in the area.

Among the injured were soldiers from the 33rd Infantry Battalion who had just arrived on board a KM-450 military truck.

Two other IEDs placed in the area were reportedly defused.

So far, the military said it suspect the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters behind the attack.
