(Eagle News) — Typhoon “Ompong” is expected to make landfall over Cagayan on Saturday, Sept. 15, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
In its update past 11 a.m., PAGASA said “significant rains,” however, will be experienced in Isabela and Cagayan starting tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 14.
PAGASA said the area that will experience the highest rainfall on that day was Aparri.
Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Western visayas and the National Capital Region may also experience rains starting Friday due to an enhanced southwest monsoon, PAGASA said.
On Saturday, PAGASA said the entire northern Luzon, particularly the western section including Ilocos Region, Ilocos Sur, La Union and the Cordillera Administrative Region will experience “maximum rainfall” because of the typhoon’s “interaction with mountains.”
The areas to experience the highest rainfall on that day are Tuguegarao and Baguio, PAGASA said.
PAGASA said storm surges were also possible in Isabela, Cagayan and Ilocos Sur based on historical data.
Signal Number One has so far been hoisted over Batanes, Cagayan incliuding the Babuyan Group of Islands, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ifugao, Isabela, Benguet, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon including Polillo islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, northern Samar, Burias and Ticao islands.
“Fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under TCWS #1, the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and of Mindanao,” PAGASA said.
