Saul Canelo Alvarez won enough rounds early in the bout to deal Gennady Golovkin the first loss of his career and wrest away the WBA, WBC and WBO middleweight belts, allowing him to capture the vacant Ring Magazine title.

Alvarez won via a 115-113, 115-113 and 114-114 majority decision to become the new and undisputed boxing middleweight king at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Judge Glenn Feldman scored it a 114-114 draw while judges Dave Moretti and Steve Weisfeld both had it at 115-113 for Alvarez.

It was another close bout with the Mexican Alvarez winning most of the early rounds.

The previously unbeaten Golovkin made a steady comeback to win most of the later rounds but it was not enough for the Kazakh slugger as Alvarez held on to a close win.
