MARYLAND (Eagle News) — As midterm elections draw near, Prince George’s County Board of Elections in Maryland is in its extensive preparations for the 2018 gubernatorial elections.
Tasked with the supervision of all county, state and federal elections in Prince George’s County, the board aims for an orderly electoral process.
This finds support from more than 3,500 election judges who will fulfill duties in the polling places to ensure fair and accessible elections.
Election judges or poll workers are volunteer registered voters who have undergone training to assist the electorate on Election Day, with the end in view of a peaceful and successful election.
To accommodate voters, all the two hundred forty-two (242) polling places in the county will have an adequate number of ballots, voting unit scanners and other supplies for election.
Sufficient coordination and quality testing assurances are conducted behind the scenes with the goal of administering a voting process that uphold the voter’s rights and thus, protect democracy.
Prince George’s County Elections Administrator, Alisha Alexander said that “most voters don’t know that it takes between twelve and fourteen months to plan for a countywide election.”
Ms. Alexander notes that “on average, approximately 50% of the Prince George’s County Elections vote in a midterm election. We must figure out a way to increase those figures.”
Midterm elections happening on November 6,2018, are general elections held in the United States every four years in the month of November near the midpoint of the president’s term.
Offices of the members of the United States Congress and of the governors and the county executives are among the public offices up for elections.
In Prince George’s County elections start at 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on November 6, 2018; early voting started on October 25, 2018, and will run through November 1, 2018, including weekends, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information on the upcoming elections in Prince George’s County, visit elections.mypgc.us.
