SWS: Number of families victimized by any common crime rises

(Eagle News)–The number of families who reported being victimized by any common crimes within the past six months has increased, a Social Weather Stations survey said.

According to the Fourth Quarter 2018 Social Weather Survey, done on December 16-19, 2018, the 7.6% or an estimated 1.8 million families reporting victimization by either pickpocket or robbery of personal property, break-ins, carnapping, and physical violence was 1.5 points above the 6.1% (or an estimated 1.4 million) in September 2018, and the highest since the 7.6 in December 2017.

The survey also found that 61% of Filipino adults were fearful of burglary, an increase by 9 points from the 52% in September 2018.

It also found that 54% were fearful of walking the streets at night, up by 8 points from the 46% in September.

“However, the survey found 39% noticing many drug addicts in the neighborhood, down by 2 points from the 41% in June and September 2018,” the survey said.

The December 2018 Social Weather Survey was conducted from December 16 to19, 2018 using face-to-face interviews of 1,440 adults nationwide: 360 each in Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Sampling error margins were pegged at ±2.6% for national percentages, and ±5% each for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.
