(Eagle News)–Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will be in the country from March 6 to 7, the Department of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday, Feb. 28.

According to the DFA, President Rodrigo Duterte, who invited Mahathir, will officially welcome him in ceremonies in Malacañang on March 7.

Duterte had gone to Malaysia in July 2018.

According to the DFA, this would be followed by a bilateral meeting “to survey and discuss cooperation in the political, economic, and people-to-people spheres, and exchange views on the topics of mutual importance.”

The DFA said Mahathir is also scheduled to meet Senate President Vicente Sotto III and  Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

This is Mahathir’s first visit to the Philippines since he assumed his post in 2018.

During his previous term as prime minister, Mahathir went on bilateral official visits in 1987 and 1994, the DFA said.
