Successive quakes hit Mohean, India; strongest tremor recorded at 5.1 magnitude

(Eagle News) – A succession of moderately strong quakes hit near Mohean, India with the strongest recorded at magnitude 5.1, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The quakes were located more than a hundred kilometers east southeast of Mohean, India or near Nicobar Islands between 15:09 UTC time or 11:09 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, until 3:55 p.m. UTC time or 11:55 a.m. Thursday, April 11 Philippine time.

The first tremor was a 4.7 magnitude quake recorded at 105 kilometers east southeast of Mohean, India at past 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, Philippine time or 15:09 UTC time. This was followed by a 4.9 magnitude quake 120 kilometers east southeast of Mohean, India recorded at 2:39 a.m. UTC or 10:39 a.m. Thursday, April 11 Philippine time.

After about an hour, at 3:50 a.m. UTC time or at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, April 11, a stronger quake was recorded at magnitude 5.1 which was  located at 112 kilometers east southeast of Mohean, India. A strong aftershock followed at 3:55 a.m. UTC time or 11:55 a.m. Philippine time on Thursday.  This was 108 kilometers east southeast of Mohean, India.

All quakes had a depth of 10 kilometers.
