Duterte formalizes approval of auction of $45-million jewelry collections

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has formalized his approval of the sale of the $45-million jewelry collections.

“The OP has officially informed PCGG that it interposes no objections to the proposed activities relative to the disposal of the Marcos Jewelry Collections…,” Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said in a message to reporters.

According to Medialdea, this was “subject to compliance w/ existing laws, rules and regulations.”

Medialdea’s announcement came days after Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said President Duterte had approved the auction of the Hawaii jewelry collection.

The Hawaii jewelry collection, Malacañang collection and the Roumeliotes collection, which the Presidential Commission on Good Government said was worth more than $45 million, are so far kept by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
