Spain won its second FIBA Basketball World Cup after beating Argentina 95-75 in Beijing on Sunday.

The center of the Spanish basketball team and NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors Marc Gasol said that Argentina and Spain have been the best teams in the championship, as they have shown ‘more heart’ and ‘more attitude’ than other competitors.

He also reminded that initially no one expected both teams to reach the final leaving teams like Serbia, USA or France. Spain’s forward Rudy Fernandez gave credit to the Argentinian national team, saying that ‘they made a spectacular tournament’ and ‘deserve all the good things that happen to them.’

He called them a young team ‘with a lot of talent’, which may win a big tournament championship in the future. Argentina’s Facundo Campazzo acknowledged the Spanish national team’s good game and said they should be ‘very proud of second place’.

Argentina’s coach Sergio Hernandez expressed the same opinion calling his team ‘spectacular’. It’s the first FIBA World Cup gold for Spain since its triumph against Greece in Japan in 2006. (Ruptly)
