(Eagle News)–The University Athletic Association of the Philippines Inc. has lifted its suspension on University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons head coach Bo Perasol over his outburst in a game against Ateneo.
In lifting the suspension on Perasol, the UAAP noted the “sincerity and voluntariness” of his “words and actions” when he personally spoke to the commissioner and “expressed deep regrets over the incident and its unintended effects” on the referee who was the subject of his outburst and his family.
“While he already said his piece, he also iterated his apology to the UAAP, particularly the (Board of Trustees),” the UAAP said.
The UAAP said that with the lifting of Perasol’s three-game suspension, he can now resume coaching duties when UP faces off with the University of Sto. Tomas on Wednesday, Oct. 16, “with the understanding that a repetition of similar acts will be dealt with more severely.”
“The UAAP, through the (Board of Managing Directors) and BOT maintains that it will support and respect the Office of the Commissioner with regard to any technical concern (i.e. rules of a sport, outcome of a sport, and other similar matters),” the UAAP said.
It said, however, that it was also “well within the office’s power to reconsider on the ground of newly discovered evidence and/or new developments such as availing in this case,” adding that there “will always be room for improvement in the area of officiating” that requires the cooperation of everyone.
“With the foregoing, let us all move on from the incident and focus on the game and the student-athletes,” the UAAP said.
