(Eagle News)–Lucio “Bong” Tan, Jr., son and namesake of business tycoon Lucio Tan, has passed away.
Tan died at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center at 8:48 a.m. due to brain herniation, two days after he was confined after collapsing during a basketball game.
He was 53 years old.
“His untimely passing leaves a big void in our hearts and our Group’s management team which would be very hard to fill,” Vivienne Tan said of her brother in a statement.
She described her brother as a “son, husband, father, friend and, most importantly, our elder brother whom we all relied on for advice, counsel and leadership.”
“Our sincerest thanks to all who offered prayers and shared words of comfort during this hour of grief,” she said.
Tan is survived by his wife Julie and sons Hun hun (Lucio Tan III) and Kyle.
He had been recently appointed as president of PAL Holdings, the parent company of Philippine Airlines.
He took over from Gilbert Gabriel Santa Maria, who resigned due to “personal reasons.”
Santa Maria remains president and CEO of Philippine Airlines.
