(Eagle News)–Senate President Tito Sotto on Monday, Nov. 25, said it was President Rodrigo Duterte’s prerogative to fire whomever he appoints.
“Parang basketball ‘yan. ‘Yung coach has the prerogative on who to put in and who to pull out,” he said.
He said in the case of Robredo, “I’m sure he trusted her then but when he probably felt the job description was not being followed, he had a different opinion.”
He said the appointment of the Vice President as Inter-Agency Committee Against Illegal Drugs co-chair was, after all, based on trust.
“Once trust is lost, the position is lost. We have a word for it in Filipino – Sayang,” Sotto said.
Robredo was fired after two weeks at the helm of the ICAD.
The Palace had said her firing was due to her party members’ taunts Duterte dismiss her.
Robredo earlier said that if the President did not trust her as ICAD co-chair, he should just fire her.
She has yet to issue a statement on her dismissal.
