(Eagle News)–The Bureau of Customs recently destroyed P215 million worth of counterfeit cigarettes and other items.
The bureau said the 5810 cigarette cases and smuggled vegetables housed in 3×40 container vans were destroyed at a facility in Porac, Pampanga on Oct. 30.
The condemnation, the bureau said, was spearheaded by the Port’s Deputy Collector for Assessment and Chief, Auction and Cargo Disposal Division, Maita S. Acevedo, and the Port’s Enforcement and Security Service and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service and Reynaldo N. Yacat.
Other representatives from other agencies also attended the event.
“As the smugglers took advantage of the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Port of Subic shall remain dedicated in supporting Commissioner (Rey) Guerrero’s program to intensify border protection and transparency to the public,” the bureau said.
