PNP: 2 cops hurt in attack in Zamboanga City; gunman, two others escape

(Eagle News) — Two police officers were injured after they were shot at by the father of two drug suspects they arrested earlier.

The Philippine National Police said Police Corporal Nicolo Leon Luna III and Police Staff Sergeant Bobby Judan, both members of Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 9, had just brought Jonar Jul-Asri and Moner Jul-Asri to the hospital for mandatory medical examination following their arrest in a buy-bust operation when they were attacked by Naser Jul-Asri, a dismissed policeman, in front of Zamboanga City Medical Center.

Luna sustained a lone gunshot wound at the back of his head particularly in the lower left ear while Judan sustained a lone gunshot wound near his throat area.

Although wounded, the PNP said Judan managed to fire back at the gunman, who ran towards Veterans Ave., and escaped on board a white van together with his two sons.

Both police officers were rushed to Zamboanga City Medical Center for medical treatment.

A citywide dragnet operations has been launched for the arrest of the suspects.

“These drug syndicates will really fight to evade arrest and continue with their illegal activities. But we will hunt them down and make them pay for their crimes,” PNP Chief Debold Sinas said.
