Government caretaker

Malacanang_palace_viewMalacañang defended President Aquino’s position of not delegating a government caretaker in his absence during his working visit in Europe.

According to Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte, there is no need to appoint a government caretaker because the President can keep in touch due to modern technology like Skype, email and cellphones.

In the President’s absence, Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa is in charge of the Office of the President.

Some of the former presidents appointed their vice-presidents as caretaker of the government during their absences.
