SAN JOSE, Antique, Dec. 3 (PIA6) – – The famous Bugang River in Pandan, Antique will be the venue of the River Tour for members of the local media on Thursday, Dec 4.
The River Tour will provide exposure to the wonderful cleanest and diverse river in the country, said Margie L. Gadian, Manager Philippine Information Agency Antique.
Bugang River, a Hall of Fame awardee of “Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran”, is the Cleanest Inland Body of Water with divine blue waters that has been a source of pride for the people of Pandan.
The pristine waters of Bugang River flows from the mountains of Pandan included in the Northwest Panay Peninsula, a declared natural park to Malumpati Spring in Sitio Malumpati, Brgy. Giua Pandan, Antique, according to Lorime Y. Olandres, designated Tourism Officer of the town.
The said River Tour will commence at Malumpati Spring going to the estuary at Brgy. Mag-aba, Pandan. It’s about 4-kilometer ride wherein participants will experience bamboo rafting and boat sailing down to the estuary.
Before the bamboo rafting, there will be an orientation session at Malumpati Health Spring Resort with SB Roger Florentino Sanchez, SB on Tourism regarding information about Bugang River, its significant contribution in mitigating the effects of climate change and its potential on eco-tourism.
Malumpati Health Spring Resort has other eco-tourism facilities such as zip line, wall climbing, trekking with local guide, mountain biking among others. It’s under the management of the Local Government of Pandan.
Gadian in her letter to the media said the tour will also give media more insights and ideas of the important role of Bugang River in maintaining the biodiversity not only of Antique but the Panay Island as well.
This is also in line with the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation advocacy campaign of PIA and DENR highlighting the importance of maintaining the watershed areas and its river system to help mitigate the impact of climate change. (JCM/PSM-PIA6 Antique)
