“No Casualties”.

This is how Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez reported their situation after Typhoon Ruby passed through their area.

According to Romualdez, they are currently experiencing flash floods due to heavy rains brought by Typhoon Ruby although it has not been life-threatening. The feared storm surges weren’t as deadly as last year’s typhoon and definitely not as strong.

Romualdez attributed such success due to the cooperation of the residents in their area due to the harsh lessons learned when Typhoon Yolanda devastated their city.

The local government is now assessing the extent of damage to properties.

In the meantime, Typhoon Ruby has made its second landfall over Cataingan, Masbate, as of 11:00 AM today. It is expected to make its 3rd landfall later tonight.

There are also no casualties reported in the province of Sorsogon.

In an update given by the Armed Forces of The Philippines Disaster Response Office (AFP-DRO), teams deployed in Juban, Sorosogon reported zero casualties and are now starting to distribute relief goods in evacuation centers.

In the said report, the town of Bulusan, Sorsogon also experienced a 3  to 5 meters storm surge around 8:00pm of Saturday (December 6).

As of press time, all coastal waters are experiencing above normal waves.

A total of 51,495 families have been evacuated in the said area.
