Police dog nabs suspect in shed

MAY 19 (Reuters) — A K-9 police dog in Southern California sniffed out a suspect from his hiding place inside a backyard shed and wrestled with the man until he was taken into custody on Monday (May 18).

Police from Azusa, east of Los Angeles, had been in pursuit of the suspect on foot when he slipped into the yard of a residential home in the area.

Earlier, police were in a pursuit of three suspects in a vehicle that was moving at high speeds along city streets in Ontario and Pomona. The pursuit ended when the car crashed into a telephone pole in Azusa, with one female suspect reportedly taken into custody immediately and a second, female suspect detained on foot shortly later, according to local media.

The male suspect reportedly fled the scene and hid in the shed; say local media, prompting the K-9 unit to get into position to flush the suspect out.

The police dog, a shepherd breed, wrestled with the suspect inside the shed and appeared to drag him out as police stood with their weapons drawn.

Police then detained the man who appeared to limp. He was seen being given medical treatment before being strapped into a gurney and taken away by ambulance. (Pomona, California, United States)
