(Eagle News) — President Aquino has said that he would not want Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas to leave his department just yet as he would still have to finish pending work there.

After gracing the 111th anniversary of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Aquino hinted he would not want Roxas to resign just yet as head of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“I might prevail on him to stay at the post a little longer to finish a lot of the things that are being done,” Aquino said in an interview with reporters.

“I’d like him to finish a lot of the things that can be finished before leaving the post and having that transition period,” he added.

Aquino wants Roxas to finish the Philippine National Police equipment upgrade and the resettlement of informal settlers in Metro Manila.

“For instance, sa PNP, yung kanilang ‘shoot, scoot and communicate’ na pag-a-upgrade ng kanilang facilities sa equipment, et cetera is ongoing. Nagpa-follow up ako doon sa informal settlers na issue, lalo na sa Metro Manila,” said the President.

“Marami talagang trabaho doon na, again, ang konsepto huwag nating patagalin ang pagdurusa ng ating mga kababayan… So, I’d like him to finish a lot of the things that can be finished before leaving the post and having the transition period,” he said.

Still, Aquino said he is eyeing certain personalities to head the DILG after Roxas leaves his post.

On Friday, President Aquino formally endorsed Roxas as the standard-bearer of the Liberal Party for the 2016 presidential elections.

In his speech, Aquino vouched for Roxas’ competence saying he was capable of continuing the administration’s “daang matuwid,” or his policy of anti-corruption.
