As the movie “Heneral Luna” hits the big screen, most were skeptical on what the feedback will be especially from the younger generations whose more inclined to main stream movies.
But as Heneral Luna hits the silver screen, I believe this is just what the Filipinos need to awaken from deep slumbers on the reality of what the country really is and to stir the hearts of patriotism of their viewers.
From the various experts of the movie industry, praises fills the glass of the makers of the historical movie ‘Heneral Luna’. It is acknowledged as indeed a great risk to produce a film and present on the big screen, a film where the audience would probably raise their eye brows since it is ‘just’ a historical film. Even more uncertain of the audience’s feedback, the film’s makers doubt that some may not even know who ‘Heneral Luna’ is. But finally, courageous producers took the big risk which give birth to a Philippine film that could be lined up with international movies.
Marvelous writing, storytelling and cinematography are the vital ingredients to convey the story of Luna in the most visually entertaining way possible. The exceptional writing of the story and its execution on the film, conveyed stinging truths about what our nation has really had come, the struggles for freedom and the realization of the sad truth of how the interests of the few prevails.
With also the power cast of the film which were veterans and legends of acting, the cast rendered remarkable acting skills. The movie paved way to see the other side of history, the story which we never have realized from the books we read in school-the story of dirt and misplaced truths of how treacherous some Filipinos were. Revealing the true nature of what happened during the war, that the bigger enemy was not the American Army that oppressed the nation but the Filipinos themselves who would trade their fellow men for their personal interests.
A movie that the nation needs to realize the costs of freedom that our heroes fought for. A film that would unleash the dark truth of history that was never brought to light. It is just what the nation need to wake us from our deep sleep.
To those who have watched it, let the story live in your hearts and learn from the lesson of the past. And to those who haven’t yet watched, would you mind to watch a unique film for a greater enlightenment? Let’s not waste the chance to watch something good beyond just romantic films. Let’s grasp the hope for the Filipino movies.
