(Eagle News) — The Court of Appeals has upheld with finality its ruling in April that “Ang Dating Daan” or ADD leader Eliseo Soriano could no longer appeal his conviction in the libel case filed against him by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
The court of appeals upheld the Quezon City Court’s refusal to entertain the appeal of Ang Dating Daan Leader Eliseo F. Soriano against his 2013 libel conviction.
Last Dec. 16, 2013, Mr. Soriano was found guilty of two counts of libel against INC.
He was ordered to pay a PHP 12,000 fine and PHP 100,000 in damages, to avoid imprisonment.
The Iglesia Ni Cristo sued Eli Soriano for saying on his television show that the INC was “a church that kills, swindles, terrorizes and steals.
Because Soriano was abroad during the promulgation of the case, the Quezon City judge denied his right to elevate his case to the Court of Appeals.
