MANILA, April 26 — The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) is advising the public to start using the correct zip code, observe correct addressing of mail items and use 80 gsm (grams per square meter) mailing envelope.
In line with the Corporate thrust of modernizing operational facilities to improve the sorting efficiency and enhance the quality of service, automatic sorting of letters thru the modern Letter Sorting Machine is currently being implemented at the PHLPost-Central Mail Exchange (CMEC).
OIC-Postmaster General Joel Otarra explained that, “The use of correct Zip Code and 80 gsm mailing envelope are mandatory for all letters to be machinable. This will speed up letter sorting and reduce the incidence of missed sorting and/or misrouting of mails.”
Zip codes should be part of the address and should be written legibly and placed correctly at the left side of the last line (4th line) of the address. If you prefer to put the contact numbers of the addressee, please make sure that there are two spaces provided after the last line of his/her address. Also, mailing envelope should not be below 80 gsm.
Mails posted with envelope below 80 gsm may be temporarily accepted but the sender shall be advised to use the required thickness of envelope in the next mailing. Sender may also be advised to replace the envelope with the required thickness before the acceptance of the mail.
For easy access of the mailing public, postal areas are temporarily providing 80 gsm (or above) envelopes at the post office counters for sale in order to assist them with this new directive until such time that they are already aware and complying to the requirements of the sorting machine.
Mail boxes will be withdrawn and letters shall pass through postal tellers for validation in order to immediately check compliance to the standard addressing and paper requirement of the machine.
Please see advisory/posters at the post offices in your area for more information and guidance. The Zip code directory is available at the PHLPost’s website, www.phlpost.gov.ph. You may also contact the numbers of Mr. Tony Oseo at (02) 527-9601 / 527-9607 or Ms. Olive Valderama at (02) 527-0076 for your other concerns regarding this. (PHLPost)
