WASHINGTON, United States (AFP) — Bernie Sanders on Tuesday won the Democratic presidential primary in Rhode Island, US networks projected — a victory that prevents rival Hillary Clinton from a clean sweep in the night’s five nominating contests.

Clinton is the projected winner of the primaries in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The contest in Connecticut was so far too close to call.

On the Republican side, frontrunner Donald Trump swept all five primaries in the US Northeast.
