The Philippine elections in the context of the ASEAN Community

 

In this first part of the May 7 episode of ASEAN in Focus weekend edition, the Philippine elections on May 9 is analyzed in the context of the ASEAN community.

The May 9 elections is a very crucial event, with the next Philippine president steering the country in this era of the ASEAN community.

The most powerful posts of president and vice-president will be voted for, with the winners serving one six-year term. Also up for grabs are 12 seats, or half of the senate; all governor posts, all mayors, and all city and municipal councils.

On May 9, and the period after that the world will focus on this Southeast Asian country, and the next President’s moves would be under a microscope.

In this edition of ASEAN in Focus weekend, the program is honored to have as guest two prominent figures in the scene of political analysis:  former Philippine Ambassador Jose V. Romero Jr., Ph.D, Chairman and President Philippine Council for Foreign Relations and the  Asian Center for Study of Democracy, and University of the Philippines Professor Aries Arugay., Executive Director of the Institute for Strategic and Development Studies.

Dr. Carlos Tabunda Jr., interviews both political experts and analyzes the difference of the May elections from the past Philippine elections.
