Senator Santiago now at Makati Medical Center’s ICU

(Eagle News) — Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago was rushed to the Makati Medical Center and is now in the hospital’s intensive care unit because of complications due to the advanced stage (stage 4) of her lung cancer.

According to information provided by the senator’s husband, retired Gen. Narciso “Jun” Santiago, she was brought to the hospital on Monday but it was only on Tuesday night that she was placed in the ICU.

There had been no information so far provided by Santiago’s camp regarding her health condition.

Visitors are also not allowed to see the senator who recently ran for president in the May 9 elections.

Prior to this, Santiago wrote a letter to the Senate leadership asking for an extension of her medical leave because of anorexia and her difficulty in eating, which was also an effect of her drug medications
