(Eagle News) — “A big fat lie.”

This was how Solicitor General Jose Calida described the allegations he had a mistress and diverted 1.8 million in public funds to her.

Speaking to CNN Philippines, Calida said the complainant herself has admitted the she has no evidence to back up any of her claims.

He was apparently referring to Jocelyn Marie Acosta Niperos, who filed a complaint for graft, malversation of funds and misconduct before the Ombudsman against him.

Niperos is a supporter of Maria Lourdes Sereno, whose appointment as Chief Justice was nullified by the Supreme Court in May.

The May 11 decision stems from the quo warranto petition filed by Calida against Sereno.

Niperos is also a founding member of a group that has supported Liberal Party standard bearers in the 2016 elections.

“She wants to destroy my family and I will not forgive them for that,” he said.

He said he believes the attacks had something to do with the nullification of Sereno’s appointment as Chief Justice.

“Why should they be afraid of me? I’m not lusting for power. I’m just doing my job,” he said.
