THE officers of the Christian Family Organization (CFO) from the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) in North Brisbane organized an Art Appreciation activity for the kids and a family picnic for all the brethren. The children visited the Gallery of Modern Arts in South Brisbane, followed by a picnic luncheon at the Captain Burke Park near the famous Brisbane River and Story Bridge.
Sister Chelsea Isabelle R. Javier, Children’s Worship Service President shared some highlights of last saturday’s wonderful experience.

“We all met in front of the Gallery of Modern Arts (GOMA) in South Brisbane at 9AM to assemble the children, assign them in groups and took group photos before the gallery welcomes visitors.
When it finally opened, we went to the third floor and started our tour. The first exhibition visited was the Indigenous Australian Collection. This exhibit showed the Indigenous Australian art that was around during the 19th century to present.
The second exhibition was called Time of Others. The children saw various art collaborations among four of the Asia-Pacific regions leading institutions.
We then made our way back to the ground floor for the FUN stuff!!!
There were two exhibitions set up for the children at GOMA. The first one was the AH XIAN: NATUREPHYSICA. The kids enjoyed their drawing activity, discovered the meaning of traditional Chinese symbols and selected an object that was meaningful to them to draw as part of their own self-portrait.
After that, we made our way to the last exhibit for children which was the Gathering by The Sea. The kids took a journey into the sea that started by walking through a sea tunnel where they could see themselves walking under water with all different sea animals. Afterwards, the children joined several activities including making collages using different templates such as, starfish, shells, crabs and coral. Another activity was making an arm band. They had to pick a totem animal like dolphin, fish and others. The last activity was drawing ” what does the sea mean to you?” where the children got to use their creative minds to draw what the sea meant to them.

Before leaving the exhibition, we took our final group photo Underneath the sea, which was an area turned into an interactive underwater experience.
After leaving GOMA, we all made our way by ferry to Captain Burke Park under the Story Bridge and met other brethren for lunch.
Indeed, it was a successful day for our church locale. This was our first ever excursion and the CWS kids along with the officers and parents had a good time and we look forward for future activities like this.”
