(Eagle News) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines said it was premature to conclude the recent killings of local politicians were part of a supposed plan of the New People’s Army (NPA) to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.
Arevalo gave the assurance though that the AFP will not allow the destabilization plot, if any, to happen.
“Apparently, meron daw pong disconnect, kasi sinasabi natin na mahina na yung NPA. …Hindi nga ito papayagan ng inyong AFP,” he said.
On Monday, July 2, Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili was shot dead as he was presiding over the city’s flag-raising ceremony.
A day later, General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Ferdinand Bote was gunned down as he was leaving the National Irrigation Administration in Cabanatuan City.
Over the weekend, Trece Martires, Cavite Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan was shot dead in an ambush.
His driver was also killed.
