AFP says Islamist militants losing ground, as soldiers recover more territories

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines West Mindanao Command said that the Islamist militants, including the Maute group, are losing ground in Marawi City as more and more territories in the city are being recovered by the government forces fighting in the area.

The AFP stressed that the Islamist militants are just holding a small part of Marawi City, contrary to the earlier claims by the Islamist terrorists.

According to AFP WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez, everyday, IS is losing more territory with more than 80% of Marawi already recovered by the AFP.

Only four of the 96 barangays in Marawi remain as “problematic areas” where some Maute members are still hiding.

But AFP spokesperson Brig. General Restituto Padilla said that the Islamist militants do not occupy the entire four barangays.
