(Eagle News) — More than 30 members of the Islamic State-linked Maute group, including four suspected foreign fighters, were killed in a military operation that lasted for three days in Pigapo, Lanao del Sur, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The AFP is now trying to confirm if there are indeed foreigners among the Maute members killed.
AFP said that some of the remains recovered look like Indonesians or Malaysians. Also, members of the AFP took note that those that they encountered speak in a foreign language.
Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) commander, said the soldiers have also seized the Maute’s camp.
He said the offensives were launched against some 150 Maute militants starting Friday.
There were 36 Maute members killed, according to the AFP.
Last November 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte revealed that the Maute Group is connected with international terrorist group ISIS.
