(Eagle News)– The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will not bomb the mosque in Marawi City that Maute group used as a sniper nest and arsenal stash.
“We categorically state that we have not bombed and will not bomb mosque in Marawi,” AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla Jr. quoted AFP chief of staff Gen. Eduardo Año as saying during the Mindanao Hour briefing in Malacañang on Wednesday (June 14).
“The Armed Forces leadership is firm in its commitment to use other options that would flush out this Maute/Daesh-inspired group from these places of worship that they have converted into machine gun and sniper nest, defensive position, and arsenals for their war activities,” Padilla added.
Año assured Muslims that the AFP would not go down to the level of the terrorists who “desecrate places of worship.”
Military operations against Maute group are still ongoing in Marawi City.
