(Eagle News) — The lawyer of Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday, June 27, said they had to “speak out” against the “lies propagated by the Marcos camp.”
Romulo Macalintal made the statement after the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, fined Robredo’s lawyers and parties P50,000 each for their release of sensitive information on the ongoing manual recount in violation of the sub judice rule.
The recount stems from the vice presidential electoral protest filed by former Senator Bongbong Marcos, whose camp was also fined.
“We stand firm that the lies propagated by the Marcos camp called on us to defend ourselves. Sometimes, we have no choice but to speak out, in order for the public to be enlightened amid the relentless black propaganda, which aims to discredit the recount being spearheaded by the PET,” Macalintal said.
The Marcos camp, according to Vic Rodriguez, his spokesperson, for their part, will “respect the decision of the Court and be more mindful of the sub judice rule in the future.”
“We will continuously abide by the PET rulings as we continue our quest for justice in our ongoing election protest,” he said.
