(Eagle News)– Tropical Depression “Agaton” is now traversing the Sulu Sea and is heading toward Palawan.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that as of 10 a.m., the center of the tropical depression was 170 kilometers west of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
It is packing maximum winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour.
It is forecast to move west at 28 kilometers per hour.
Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Palawan including Cuyo Island Guimaras, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Southern Antique, and Southern Iloilo, with waves in open sea expected to reach 1.25 to 4 meters.
“Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains is expected over the areas with (Signal Number 1) as well as the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Panay Island, Romblon, and Mindoro provinces,” PAGASA said.
PAGASA said residents of these areas “must undertake precautionary measures against possible flooding and landslides and coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices.”
“Sea travel is risky over the areas under (Signal Number 1) and the seaboards of Northern and Southern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, eastern and western seaboards of Visayas, and eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to the surge of the Northeast Monsoon and TD Agaton,” PAGASA added.
