Albay placed under State of Calamity

Due to the threat of Typhoon Ruby, the whole province of Albay has been placed under a State of Calamity.

In signed resolution, the Provincial Board of Albay has approved the request of Albay Governor Joey Salceda to place the whole province under a state of calamity.

According to Dr. Cedric Daep, Head of Albay Public Safety and Management Office, it is essential to place Albay under a State of Calamity in order for them to make use of the Calamity and Recovery Fund.

Daep alo added that it is necessary in order for the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to control the prices of basic commodities.

As of now, almost 74,000 families in Albay are already evacuated due to typhoon Ruby. The provincial government is expecting to evacuate 128,000 families living in hazardous areas.

Typhoon Ruby is expected to hit Eastern Visayas tomorrow morning.
