The local government of Albay is preparing for the worst case scenario once the Mayon Volcano erupts.
It was discovered that the lava dome in the mouth of the volcano was in a bad condition. It now reaches the height of a 41-storey building and may collapse with the continuing rise in pressure inside the said lava dome.
According to Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office Head Cedric Daep, there is a possibility that they may change their contingency plans once the volcano erupts.
There is also a possibility that the area that will be affected by the volcanic eruption will change.
First determined areas that will be affected include Sto. Domingo, Daraga, and Legaspi City. But with the recently discovered increase in the lava dome, it is feared that the area to be hit by pyroclastic materials may widen as well.
