(Eagle News)—-Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde on Thursday, March 7, defended National Capital Region Police Office director Guillermo Eleazar for his outburst against a policeman who was caught extorting from a drug suspect in exchange for the dropping of charges against him.
In a television interview, Albayalde said Eleazar only lost his temper in front of Corporal Marlo Siblao Quibete, whose group allegedly extorted P80,000 and a motorcycle from the suspect, because Quibete did what he did despite the repeated directives to policemen for them not to engage in illegal activities including extortion.
“Kung minsan talaga hindi mo maiwasan ‘yung outburst mo sa sobrang galit,” Albayalde said.
A visibly irate Eleazar was seen grabbing Quibete by the shirt and scolding him on national television.
Eleazar has apologized for his behavior, but added in a television interview on Thursday, March 8, that he would not apologize to Quibete himself and to “mga tar*nt*dong pulis.”
On Wednesday, March 6, President Rodrigo Duterte defended the NCRPO chief.
“Eh ano ba naman yung ganun-ganon? Sumasayaw nga sila ng tao. Sabihin mo I have his back covered,” Duterte said.
