Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde on Thursday, June 7, invited representatives from the global think tank Institute for Economics and Peace to the Philippines to know the situation on the ground.
Albayalde made the statement after the Australian-based group said in its Global Peace Index 2018 study that the Philippines was still one of the least peaceful countries in the world.
The country ranked 137th out of the 163 nations, a rank lower than its rank in 2017.
“Then probably they will see kung gaano ka peaceful sa ating bansa kasi when you are out in other countries mababalitaan mo dito kasi na may pinatay dito, may namatay na ganun, may nasaksak, may pinasukan na ganun. So ito usually ang nababalita sa iba’t ibang bansa,” Albayalde said.
He added it was possible the group’s “perception” was borne out of the human rights issues which some critics have been throwing at the government–and which have been reported—in connection with the drug war.
“We want these people siguro to go to our country and see for themselves kung ano talaga ang sitwasyon ng peace and order dito sa ating bansa,” he said.
